Welcome & Thanks for supporting The Queer Dominoes Project !
The Queer Dominoes Project by Bare Radicals from Ends was founded in south London to decolonise spaces of play for Caribbeans of all ages.
Welcome to the Queer Dominoes Project.
I’m writing to you now as you’ve previously signed up go attend a Queer Dominoes Project workshop. The Queer Dominoes project is an idea that has evolved from several conversations with fellow queers of Caribbean heritage that were reluctant to admit they couldn’t play dominoes (that well). Eventually I shook the shame off, and asked my grandparents to teach me. After my granddad died, and I was honest with the fact my dads side of the family were NOT the kind of people I feel safe with. So, I got to learn the game by awkwardly lurking on street corners in Antigua; with strangers outside a laundrette in Flatbush, Brooklyn and eventually hovering in the back corner at children’s workshops run by Brixton Immortals at Lambeth libraries.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Kelsea and I run the project. I am a genderqueer south london native who produces creative events as part of my collective bare radicals (from ends). In short, we lead on artistic events that seek to decolonise spaces and create radical systems change. So far, its mostly me that leads on this, and I won’t lie this email has taken a while for me to send. - I took some time away from producing for some much needed R&R.
If we’ve met before and I was meant to contact you, please accept my apologies for not reaching out already. But now, my mental health is on the mend, and i’ll be in touch soon.
In 2024, we will be working with even more partners for events, and I want you to come through. Make sure you add me to your contacts if you want to be the first to find out about future events. We’ve got one coming up next month! We still need to raise funds more to happen though. A former colleague and bare radicals members in NYC, pulled together a fundraiser on GoFundMe , but with all my social media attention being on Palestine, we haven’t promoted this much. I should probably take this chance to tell you all about some sustainable merch/garms on the way. But when the ceasefire happens, we’ll be back to regularly promoting the events and fundraising campaigns.
This is mostly a thanks for subscribing note so I’ll finish up here.
